The striped stool

Dal robivecchi, qualche mese fa, passavo il sabato pomeriggio rovistando...
From junk dealer, a few months ago, I spent a saturday afternoon poking around...

Tra mille paia di occhiali, specchi, libri, scarpe e cappelli ho trovato un simpatico sgabello in perfette condizioni ma dalla foggia un pò troppo vintage!

Among a thousands of pairs of glasses, mirrors, books, shoes and hats, I found a nice stool in perfect condition but the style a bit too vintage!

Con gli attrezzi giusti è iniziata la mia prima operazione di restauro:

Chiodi neri da tappezziere, 

vernice spray, telo 4x4m per evitare di sporcare tutto, 

carta vetrata, stucco per legno, 

martello. 

Nails blacks upholsterer,spray paint, 4x4m cloth to avoid soiling everything, sandpaper, wood putty, hammer.

La prima cosa da fare in assoluto è proteggere il piano di lavoro con un telo di plastica per evitare di macchiare tavoli, pavimenti...

The first thing to do by far is to protect the work surface with a sheet of plastic to avoid staining tables, floors ...

Carteggiare le parti in legno per ripulirle e per facilitare la presa della vernice. 

Sanding wooden parts to clean them and to facilitate gripping of the paint.

Passare lo stucco sugli eventuali buchi lasciati dai tarli, nel mio qualcuno ce n'era! In un paio d'ore dovrebbe asciugare. Poi occorrerà carteggiare di nuovo per levigare la superficie. 

Pass the filler on any holes left by the worms, there was someone in my! In a couple of hours it should be dry. Then again sand the surface to smooth it.

Dopo aver protetto adeguatamente le parti in stoffa si potrà iniziare a verniciare i piedi dello sgabello. Ho scelto una vernice spray perchè è più pratica, non cola, si stende e si asciuga rapidamente. In mezz'ora sarà asciutto.

Protect adequately fabric parties and you can begin to paint the feet of the stool. I chose a spray paint because it is more practical, does not run, stretches and dries quickly. In half an hour it will be dry.

Nel frattempo si può preparare la stoffa da usare come rivestimento! Io la cercavo a strisce bianche e nere ma non l'ho trovata, per cui ho comprato due scampoli, uno bianco e uno nero, di stoffa da tappezzeria e li ho tagliati in strisce uguali larghe 10cm (più 4 per l'imbastitura) per poi cucirli insieme a formare il telo. 

In the meantime, you can prepare the fabric for use as a coating! I was looking at the black and white stripes but I have not found, so I bought two scraps cloth upholstery, one white and one black, and I cut them into strips the same width 10cm (plus 4 for basting) for then sew them together to form the fabric.

Centrare la stoffa sulla seduta. Saranno utili degli spilli da sarta per posizionarla nel modo corretto. 

Center the fabric on the seat. Will help the dressmaker pins to place it in the correct way.

Inchiodare il telo ben teso sul retro ponendo all'incirca un chiodo ogni 10 cm.  

Nail the fabric stretched taut on the back about putting a nail every 10 cm.

 Non resta che ricoprire anche il fondo per rifinire meglio il lavoro. 

You just have to fill even the ground to finish the job.

 A questo punto il lavoro sarebbe finito! 
Io però ho cucito, con semplice ago e filo, della passamaneria nera al bordo per aggiungere un dettaglio particolare. 


At this point, the work would be finished!
But I have sewn, with a simple needle and thread, black trimmings at the top to add a particular detail.
